I really wanted this maker but wouldn’t put up with its shortcomings

  • Carpe Tao says:

Do not buy. Seriously. Just don’t. This is my third Mr. Coffee coffee maker, but it will be my last. It pours…well…poorly. The coffee dribbles out at a trickle and runs down the side of the carafe. Within six weeks, the sensor that checks whether the carafe is in place went south, so 9/10 times I start a pot, the coffee maker beeps and refuses to start. I have to slam the carafe into the coffee maker several times to get it to register that the carafe is in place. The coffee is at a good temperature to start, but the carafe doesn’t keep it warm for long. I’d swear it did a good job initially, but something failed in the carafe at some point and it went from keeping the coffee hot for four or five hours to about 90 minutes. The internal organs of the thing leak, too. Slowly. There’s a slow trickle of black coffee oozing from the bottom of the machine on a daily basis. Not from overflow of the carafe, but from inside the coffee maker. This thing is crap for the price they want for it. Go buy a carafe and…

A few slight caveats Brews fast, brews great, brews clean, brews consistently. Here are a few slight caveats. The model number ends in 95, but the instruction manual and a part in the pot has not been updated to reflect changes in this product since the earlier models in this series (SCTX). If you believe the instruction manual, you have to put the charcoal water filter between the two three-legged plastic circles above where either the paper filter or the permanent filter goes. The bottom plastic circle even suggests that it can be opened for that purpose. But in reality, it can’t, and the water filter doesn’t go there anyway, not according to a Mr. Coffee technician I spoke to earlier today. It just goes on top, not in the middle. Just drop it in from the top. The tech told me that the manual will have to be updated to reflect that change. Also, the stainess steel carafe is both very heavy and way heavier than the rest of the ‘maker. Elderly and weak hands will…
