… Gaggia Academia after being unimpressed with 2 other competitor super automatic machines I had its predecessor the Gaggia Academia after being unimpressed with 2 other competitor super automatic machines. The Academia I enjoyed for over 5 years, with no issues and the counters have now totaled over 14,000 cups. I donated it to my work place since it is still reliableThe Babila is the same great experience so far and adds a few extra programmable features. I am not aware of any negatives. If a high end machine can keep any heavy coffee connoisseur out of a daily Starbucks visit for years, then it pays for itself and the convenience of immediate availability (especially on days off) is a great luxury

Nice Machine – Requires Attention First, this is the nicest coffee maker we have ever owned. We were big Keurig users before this. We’ve used it a lot in the past two weeks that we’ve had it.Second, the coffee beans make a HUGE difference in flavour. It should go without saying, but it’s something to be mindful of. We found the Lavazza Gran Espresso beans make a very mild and smooth coffee. Starbucks Verona makes a very robust and flavourful coffee. The flow control knob on the front makes very little difference – from what we found. So we just leave it in the middle position. With the before and after automatic rinse cycles and making coffee, water runs out fairly often. We now top up the tank whenever we make coffee. The machine will make a partial coffee and stop if it runs out of water.Keep an eye on the bean hopper. If it runs out part way through a brew, the machine will still brew a weak coffee. We find we are dumping the grounds hopper and internal drip…

Super Convenient, Good Expresso, Simple Upkeep This super-automatic is a worthwhile quality-of-life upgrade for me. I previously had a Breville Barista Expresso Machine where I had to pull the expresso shots and froth the milk myself. It ended up sitting idle most days because I got too busy/lazy to manually make my expresso drinks and clean up. By contrast, this super-automatic makes it very easy to make a good expresso drink with – almost – just the press of a button.Expresso quality – 5 stars. Better than I could make myself on the Breville, and IMO better than Charbucks. I use Lavazza Super Crema beans.Cappucino quality – 4.5 stars. Nice separation of layers of steamed milk, expresso, and milk foam. The quality is consistent and the drink is nice and hot in the first few minutes. There is still room for improvement. The steamed milk could be hotter, so that the drink overall stays hot longer, and the milk foam on top could be finer (less airy) in texture.Maintenance – 4.5 stars -…
