Nice for Making my Afternoon Coffee in Smaller Amounts Just made my first batch. I like strong, thick coffee, so I loaded the compartment, but followed directions and did not compress or tamp the freshly ground beans (set at medium grind on my burr grinder). The secret to getting the coffee as rich as possible and not damaging the coffee maker is keeping the flame as low as a setting as possible to get the hot water to “inject” from the bottom half to the top half. You’ll hear a hissing bubbling sound. When this hissing wanes, your top area should be full of coffee and it’s time to turn the heat off. If the heat is too high, the flames will expand around the coffee maker base and do damage to your unit. You may even melt the handle, so I have to emphasize, low to medium heat is the key here. Be patient. The hissing sound may take 15 minutes or so. It’s worth it.Compared to my very good Bonavita 1900, which I use for a bigger batch in the morning, the stovetop method produces a slightly stronger, thicker cup of coffee…
